Introduction¶
Atomic uses a simple hierarchy that helps you build treatment programs in a structured way.
The building blocks¶
Elements¶
An element is the smallest unit in Atomic. It can be an exercise, an educational topic, a measurement instrument or a relaxation technique. Each element has:
- A name and abbreviation (two letters, like in the periodic table)
- A theme (content-based, e.g. "Pain management" or "Relaxation")
- A group (structural, e.g. "Physical Exercises" or "Education")
- Optionally: instructions, materials, links to content
Sessions¶
A session is a collection of elements that together form one lesson or treatment moment. Within a session, elements are ordered and marked as:
- CORE — mandatory part of the session
- OPTIONAL — optional, can be added depending on the participant
Flexible placement
The same element can be mandatory (CORE) in one program and optional (OPTIONAL) in another. The marking is on the placement, not on the element itself.
Programs¶
A program is a series of sessions that together form a complete treatment pathway. Each session has a week number and sequence number within the program.
Two ways of classifying¶
Elements are classified along two independent axes:
14 Themes (content-based):
Themes describe what the element is about. For example: Body & complaint knowledge, Pain management, Relaxation, Movement in daily life.
5 Groups (structural):
Groups describe what kind of element it is: Education, Physical Exercises, Measurement Instruments, Relaxation Techniques, or Therapy Tools.
Two filter axes
You can filter elements by theme, by group, or by both at the same time. This makes it easy to find exactly the right element for a session.
